Accepting Responsibility

Velma Barfield was under the influence of prescription drugs when she poisoned four people. While in prison on death row, she accepted Christ as her Savior and Lord. For the first time in her life. Velma saw herself as a person of worth in God's sight.

Although she could have claimed that her medicine was the cause of her actions. Velma took responsibility for what she did. She wrote in her Bible: "Sin is being called all kinds of fancy names nowadays, but it's time we come to grips with ourselves and call sin what it realty is SIN."

Confessing sin as sin bring, us face to face with reality. And that's where we find a loving God and a redeeming Savior who forgives us and renews hope within us.

To find solutions to their problems, many people turn to counselors. And to the extent that they help us uncover selfish motives and accept responsibility for our actions, they are agents of the Holy Spirit, the One who shows us the truth about ourselves.

At some point we all must acknowledge, as the Israelites did. "We have sinned against the Lord." Confession may not remove the consequences of wrong actions. but it's a first step to wholeness. DJD

We must acknowledge when we're wrong,
Confessing it as sin,
If we would know God's power to heal
And cleanse us from within.

WHEN YOU DO WRONG, WHO TAKES THE BLAME?
