Keeping It Simple

writing for a Grand Rapids newspaper, columnist Cathy Run-on offered a pocket guide to "parents." While many consider parenting to be a long-term commitment, she humorously notes that often it's more like a "short sentence": "Wash your hands. Brush your teeth. Comb your hair. Clip your nails. Take a bath. Remember the deodorant. Get a haircut. Polish your shoes. Change your clothes. Button your shirt. Don't pick it. Shut the door. Clean your room. Make your bed. Do your homework. Flush the toilet. Do your chores. Stop that noise. Save your money. Write to Grandma. Phone home first. Beware of strangers. No more TV. Wait till Christmas."

While acknowledging the depth of the wisdom of Christ, the apostle Paul also emphasised the simplicity of his approach to spiritual parenting. He proclaimed a message that we in turn can put iii sample sentences: "Jesus loves you. He was crucified. He is risen. He is Lord. We have sinned. We need forgiveness. Don't trust yourself. Believe in Him. Let Him lead. Depart from sin. Help one another. Spread the word-Jesus has come. He's coming again."

Father, help us to grow to spiritual maturity but never forget those simple truths. -MRDII
